Governor John Burroughs papers, 1959-1960.

Summary: Collection consists of official and personal papers of Governor Burroughs. The bulk of the collection consists of his official papers. Correspondence discusses various legislative bills, including a senate bill from 1957 involving peyote. Also included is Burrough's correspondence with the U.S. congressional delegation from New Mexico. Petitions concern the closing of Lincoln school and the Anapra Race Track. Appointments, proclamations, resignations and reports involve various state agencies. Legislative papers include veto messages, case reports, House and Senate bills, the New Mexico State Budget, and the School Finance problem. Special reports discuss mine safety, soil conservation, the creation of the State Library, the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, and taxes. Civil defense series contains the New Mexico Operational Survival Plan. News releases and clippings pertain primarily to Burrough's speeches.
